In the summer, many Hong Kongers find themselves looking for ways to cool off and a dip in the pool is one of the most popular activities. Luckily, we are spoiled for choice with public pools all over the city. We’ve put together a list of some of our favourites that are sure to make a splash this summer.
Located in Tsing Yi, this large complex has a main pool, a teaching pool and a leisure pool, as well as plenty of water slides. It’s a great spot for families and individuals alike. It’s also only about a 10 minute walk from both Diamond Hill and Choi Hung MTR stations (and is easily accessible on the green Kwun Tong line), or you can catch a number of buses (e.g. 116 from Causeway Bay will get you there in about 30 minutes and stops right opposite the pool).
The pool at Island Shangri-La gets an A-plus for its beachy vibes, even though it’s situated in the middle of the city. With an avenue of palm trees, umbrella-lined lounge chairs and a massive outdoor pool, this place has all the makings of a tropical escape.
As a bonus, the pools are open until 10pm so you can enjoy a swim in the cool night air after work or school. The admission price is fixed no matter where you go, and for adults it’s $17 on weekdays and $19 on weekends and public holidays. Kids under 3 years go free.
This is a great swimming pool with a lot of activities for children and a nice restaurant. The water slides are fun for both kids and adults, and there’s an area just for toddlers. This pool is not crowded and it’s a great spot for families with young children to swim safely.
Located on the top floor of Hong Kong’s International Commerce Centre, this stunning infinity pool is one of a kind. With bottom-to-ceiling glass windows and 144 LED screens that give the illusion of coral reefs and bright blue skies, this is definitely a pool to behold! It’s a must-visit for anyone who is planning on taking a dip in Hong Kong.
The pools at HK Disneyland are the perfect way to enjoy the sweltering Hong Kong weather without having to leave the comfort of your hotel room! The indoor and outdoor pools are both large, and the waterfalls at the inside pool are a beautiful sight. This is the best pool to visit if you’re looking for a relaxing and refreshing break from your hectic holiday! It’s also a good option if you have small children as they can enjoy the pool safely with supervision. The entrance fee is a bit steep, but the views are worth it! You can also book a spa package and spend the day at the pool for an extra special experience.
